PJD Awarded Contract At EPR Ely Plant

Ely Power Station at 38MW, is the largest straw burning power station in the world generating over 270GWh each year. The plant was built in 2000 by FLS Miljo and is located on the Elean Business park to the north of Ely.

Ely’s environmental permit allows for the burning of oil seed rape and miscanthus in addition to its usual fuel of cereal straw. The 200,000 tonnes p.a. fuel demand of the plant is supplied by Ely's sister company,Anglian Straw, the plant is also capable of burning a range of other biofuels and up to 10% natural gas.

PJD have been awarded a contract to carry out repair works to the stoker-fed vibrating grate boiler, which will include the installation of replacement Superheater elements,  repairs to the furnace rear wall tubes & a boiler desuperheater. This contract is due to start July 2011.
